Lesson 5
THE WORD OF GOD
God Speaks Through the Bible
God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
In the Bible we can see that God spoke to many people. He also wants to talk to all of us. The word “Bible” means “books” and is a collection of 66 books divided in two parts: The Old Testament and the New Testament. God speaks to us throughout all the Bible, but in the New Testament he speaks to us through Jesus and in the letters He speaks directly to the church.
Paul, called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother, Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours:
The Bible is the Word of God in written form where we can find the will of God for all the areas of life.
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
The Word of God is TruthJoh 17:17
”Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.”
Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
The Bible is alive and full of power to change our lives. It is also spiritual nutrition that makes us strong.
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
The Bible Teaches How to Live Correctly
Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
To receive the benefit of the Word it is important to put it into practice.
But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
God Speaks Through the Holy Spirit
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
We will not find specific information about our life in the Bible, but we can always be led by the Holy Spirit. The will of God produces peace and joy in our spirit. The Holy Spirit always leads us according to the Word and He never forces us to do something against our will.
God Speaks Through People
And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
The ministers explain and simplify the Word of God in their messages at church. For this reason, it is necessary for us to be part of a church and assist the meetings. In a Bible school or institute believers can study the Bible more in depth.
Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
Sometimes we receive a prophetic word by the Holy Spirit to confirm what God has been talking to us before.
But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.
God Speaks in Different Ways
Whereupon, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision: But shewed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judaea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance.
God is communicating by visions and dreams. This is spectacular, and needs to be interpreted and applied correctly.
My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.
We can read verses in the Bible and find out how God wants us to live. Here is one example of how we ought to treat each other.Eph 4:32
”And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.”
